The Noxapater Lady Tigers closed out their regular season last week with a double-header sweep of East Oktibbeha and a home loss to Louisville.
Noxapater, which finished second in the region, was set to visit Ethel on Tuesday afternoon for a best-of-three series beginning at 1 p.m. to begin the MHSAA Class 1A State Slow-Pitch Softball Playoffs. The games were played too late to get the results in this week’s edition of the Winston County Journal. If Noxapater won, it will play a second-round match-up on Saturday.
The Lady Tigers lost a 16-4 decision to Louisville on Thursday before sweeping the Lady Titans of East Oktibbeha on Saturday. Treasure Lynch, Kiera Phillips, Anna Claire Webb and Kyria Carter each picked up singles for the Lady Tigers against LHS.
Noxapater had an offensive explosion on Saturday, beating East Oktibbeha 20-0 in the first game and 25-3 in the second one.
Phillips had two homers and a single to lead Noxapater in the opener, while Webb blasted a triple, two doubles and a single and Lynch had two singles and a double. Emily Mills added three singles for the winners, while Yolanda Cooper doubled and Madelyn Wilkes, Princess Welch, Tiffany Hornesbuger, Kyria Carter and Lexi Thomas each singled.
The second game saw Lynch smack a homer, double and two singles for Noxapater, while Hornesbuger had three doubles and two singles and Phillips popped a triple and two singles. Webb pitched in with three hits, while Wilkes had a single and double, Carter two doubles and Mills two singles. Thomas also doubled for Noxapater, while Hailey Hardy and Cooper each singled.
