Second-year Noxapater head baseball coach Casey Orr is hoping to introduce the past to the present when the Tigers host a pair of alumni games on June 8 as a fundraiser for the baseball program.
“I am expecting participants from a wide variety of ages,” said Orr. “Most of the people who have showed interest in coming are from the 1998 State Championship team. I told our guys they better be ready to play or they might get embarrassed.”
Orr said his plans are for the alumni to take on the current Tigers in the first game at 10 a.m. and then perhaps have a 2 p.m. game with the alumni playing each other. In between games there will be a home run derby contest.
Orr said he is asking participants to donate $25 each to take part in the alumni games. There will be a $10 donation collected for those taking part in the home run derby, with a Tiger baseball t-shirt going to the winner.
“We are just looking at ways to raise some funds for the baseball program to help us upgrade our facilities, as well as spark some interest in the community.”
Those who cannot attend, but wish to donate to the baseball program can do so by making a check out to Noxapater Baseball and mailing it to Noxapater Attendance Center at 220 West Alice Street, Noxapater, Miss., 39346 to the attention of coach Casey Orr.
