Isaiah Eiland ripped a triple, double and single and Jacob Hemphill struck out seven batters in five strong innings on the mound to lead the Warriors of Nanih Waiya to a 10-0 win over Noxapater in the region opener for both teams last Thursday.
“It’s always good to win that first district game,” said NW head baseball coach Tyler Rogers. “Now we just need to go get the next one.” The next one will be Thursday when West Lowndes comes to town. The game was originally scheduled for Friday but was moved up one day due to weather concerns. Before facing West Lowndes, Nanih Waiya was set to travel to French Camp on Tuesday to take on the Panthers. “Those will be a couple of tough games for us,” Rogers said.
Robinson had a double and two singles for NW against Noxapater, while Cumberland pitched in with three singles and Dylan Dent popped a double.
The Warriors dropped a 7-6 decision to Union on Saturday in a game that saw Nanih Waiya commit several errors to fall behind 7-0, then score six times in the seventh inning and get the tying and go-ahead runs on second and third.
But, Union reliever Dustin Bates came on to record the final two outs and stymie the Nanih Waiya comeback.
Dent had a double and single for Nanih Waiya in the game, while Eiland popped a two-bagger during the game.
