Mrs. Jessie Bell (Dobbs) Cornish

Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie Bell (Dobbs) Cornish, 94, were held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 11 AM at Ackerman Baptist Church. Interment followed in Enon Cemetery. Rev. Danny Irvin officiated.

A native of Ackerman, Mrs. Cornish was born in Choctaw County November 12, 1919 and died January 29, 2014 at Choctaw County Nursing Center in Ackerman. She was a member of Ackerman Baptist Church.

Mrs. Joann Shaw Talley

Funeral services for Mrs. Joann Shaw Talley, 60, were held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 12 PM at Choctaw Community Center in Ackerman. Interment followed in Mt. Salem Cemetery. Rev. Charles Goss officiated.

A native of Ackerman, Mrs. Talley was a retired educator and was born September 12, 1953 and died January 26, 2014 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Mrs. Talley is survived by her husband Paul Talley, mother Mary Lois Shaw, two step-daughters Dantriel and Myron Cowan; two step-sons Bartkawski Cowan and Ryan Paultrice; nine sisters Willie Lois Andrus, Mary Dell Carter, Johnnie Harris, Vergie Earvin, Willie Shaw, Joyce Shaw, Meridith Mosley, Nancy Shaw Elium and Glenda Shaw Hill.

Mr. James Edward Johnson

Funeral services for Mr. James Edward Johnson, 74, were held on Friday, January 30, 2014 at 11 AM at Still Valley M. B. Church in Louisville. Interment followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Rev. Willie Haynes officiated.

A native of Louisville, Mr. Johnson was born May 7, 1939 and died January 25, 2014 at his home in Louisville.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife Mary Johnson, four daughters Barbara Eckhart of Davenport IA, Daphne, Tabitha Hardin of Louisville and Estella Hall of Meridian, MS., three sons James Ray, Dexter and Jason all of Louisville; three sisters Mary R. Harrington, Willie Mae Coleman both of Louisville, twenty grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Edgar Lee “Sam” Dawkins

Funeral services for Mr. Edgar Lee “Sam” Dawkins, 78, were held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Mount Calvary M. B. Church in Louisville. Interment followed in Little Calvary Cemetery. Rev. Tommy Shelton, Sr. officiated.

A native of Louisville, Mr. Dawkins was a member of Little Calvary M. B. Church and was born May 29, 1935 and died January 25, 2014 at Winston Medical Center in Louisville.

Mr. Dawkins is survived by his wife Verlean Dawkins, four daughters Lorraine Combs, Haywood, CA., Evelyn Spears of McCool, MS., Glory Hord of Pulaski, MS., four sons Aaron Dawkins, Dewayne Dawkins both of Tupelo, MS Kendrick dawkins and Jerry Hawthorne both of McCool. MS.; one sister Callie Lampley of Milwaukee, WI. one brother Haley Dawkins of Saginaw MI, ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Ms. Deborah Ann Porter

Funeral services for MS. Deborah Ann Porter, 42, were held on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Unity M. B. Church in Louisville. Interment followed in Antioch Cemetery. Rev. Willie J. Matthews. officiated.

A native of Louisville, Ms, Porter was a member of Unity M. B. Church and was born in Louisville April 16, 1971 and died January 22, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus.

Ms. Porter is survived by four sisters LaSharia Porter, Melissa Miller, Marcie Holmes al of Louisville and Carolyn Richardson of Columbus, MS. two brothers Clifton Porter of Philadelphia, MS and Troy Porter of Louisville and a host of, aunts, uncles cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mr. Howard Earl Richardson

Mr. Howard Earl Richardson (Lou), age 66 of Sumiton, Al passed away on Sunday, January 26th, 2014, due to a long illness. Graveside services were held at 11 AM on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Louisville. Porter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by 2 sons; Michael and Andy, 3 brothers; Tom, Rob, and Mark Richardson.

He grew up in Central Park, attended Ensley High School, and was a big Auburn Fan. He retired from Southern National Gas Company; Pipeline Department of Louisville, Mississippi.

Mr. Lonnie Lashley

Funeral services for Mr. Lonnie Lashley will be held at 2 PM Sunday, February 2, 2014 from John E. Stephens Chapel with Rev. Stuart Purvis & Rev. Terry Wilkerson officiating. Interment will be in Spring Creek Cemetery. John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lashley, 83, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Neshoba General Hospital. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He retired from U. S. Electrical Motors. Mr. Lashley was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church.

Mr. Lashley is survived by his wife, Billie Lashley of Phila, MS; daughter, Trena Wilkerson of Waco, TX; son, Stacy Lashley of Phila, MS; sisters, Dorothy Copeland of Phila, MS, Delmar Adkins of Huntsville, AL, Maxine Munn of Butler, AL and Brenda Gant of Purvis, MS; (3) grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Jerry Ferguson, Joey Blount, Joseph Blount, Kenneth Massey, Randy Fortenberry, James Johnson, Max Maxey, Billy Joe Byrd, Pete Fulton, Lamar Parker, Rev. Paul Leber, Jeffie Jackson, Jimmy Robert Jones, James Henry Patterson and Norman Blount.

Mr. R B Hodgins

Funeral services for Mr. R B Hodgins were held at 2 PM Saturday, February 1, 2014 at John E. Stephens Chapel with Rev. John Stephens officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday, January 31, 2014 at John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services.

Mr. Hodgins, 86, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Atwood Personal Care Home in Philadelphia. He was born in Winston County, but lived in Philadelphia most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was manager and funeral director of Nowell Funeral Home for 30 years. Mr. Hodgins was a mason, shriner, member of VFW, American Legion and Rotary Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Mr. Hodgins is survived by his sons, Billy Hodgins of Hurley, MS & Barron Hodgins of Spring, TX; sister, Ima Jean Hudson of Pearl, MS; brother, Clois Hodgins of Mobile, AL; (5) grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Ronald Hodgins, Butch Hodgins, Robert Hodgins, Jerome Hodgins, Thomas Hodgins and Roger Hudson.
