Lavon Carter

Funeral services for Lavon Carter, 71, were held at 11 a.m., February 21 at Beck Funeral Home in Louisville. Dr. Willie J. Coleman officiated. Burial followed in Mt. Pleasant #2 cemetery in Noxapater.

Mr. Carter was a laborer. He died February 14 at Starkville Manor.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Carter; 1 daugher, Cynthia McMiller; 2 sons, Chad Crosby and Erick Carter; 1 sister, Aldean Ivy; 15 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Beck Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of the arrangements.

 

Rafael VyShawn Thompson

Funeral services for Rafael VyShawn Thompson, 27, were held at 2 p.m., February 21 at New Zion M.B. Church in Louisville. Rev. Armondo Adams officiated. Burial followed in the New Zion cemetery.

Mr. Thompson was a student. He died February 14 in Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Harrington; his father, Roy Thompson, Jr.; 3 brothers, Ricky Edwards, Jr., Lakendrick Daniels, and Maurice Hall; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Finis Renga Hendrix

Funeral services for Finis Renga Hendrix, 62, were held at 1 p.m., February 25 at Mt. Moriah M.B. Church in Louisville. Dr. B.M. Pittman officiated. Burial followed in the Union Chapel cemetery.

Mr. Hendrix was a laborer and member of Mt. Moriah M.B. Church. He died February 21 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

Survivors include his fiance, Ruth Haynes; his step-mother, Doris Hendrix; 4 daughters, Nikeelia Hutchins, Karen Woodard, LaTifany Haynes, and Jermeice Duckwork; 2 sons, Jermaine Duckwork and Danny Carter; 4 sisters, Sonja Smith, Charlene Haynes, Angela Hunter, and Vonda Leath; and 1 brother, Renardo Hendrix.

Annie Miller

Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Miller, 95, were held at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 21 at Union Chapel M.B. Church in Louisville. Pastor Billy Clay officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Miller worked from the Winston County Schools culinary industry and later worked at Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store. She was a member of Union Chapel M.B. Church. Mrs. Miller died February 15 in her home.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Girtha Fleming, Alma Davis, and Lora Thompson; 1 son, Sam Miller, Jr.; 4 grandchildren, Derrick Davis, Katina Newson, Eric Barnes, and Dominique Miller; 9 great-grandchildren; and a host nieces and nephews.

Franklin R. Jones

Services for Franklin R. Jones, 83, of Starkville were Feb. 23, 2017, at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman. Burial was in McClelland Cemetery near Sturgis.

A retired painter, he was born Aug. 13, 1933, in Holmes County to the late Clarence and Lavada Sides Jones. Mr. Jones died Feb. 21 2017, at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.

Survivors include his sons, Charles Jones of Mathiston, Dennis Jones of Starkville, and Leon Jones, Skebo Jones and Troy Jones of Sturgis; his brother, Fletcher Jones of West Point; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

 

Ms. Mavis Lou Shurden Fulgham

Funeral services for Ms. Mavis Lou Shurden Fulgham, 97, were held at Double Springs Baptist Church in Maben Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 11 a.m.

Ms. Fulgham was retired from Ideal Glove Manufacturing in Maben and a member of Double Springs Baptist Church. Ms. Fulgham passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.

Survivors include brothers, Lloyd Shurden and Leon Shurden, both of Mathiston.

Memorials may be made to Double Springs Baptist Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, 10284 Maben Sturgis Rd., Maben, MS 39750.
