Jimmy Dale

Bruce

Services for Jimmy Dale Bruce, 79, of Fentress were March 17, 2017, at the South Union Methodist Church arbor near Ackerman. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was born May 12, 1937, in the Fentress community to the late W.L. Bruce and Lucy Boggan Bruce. Mr. Bruce was a graduate of Ackerman High School and served in the Army with the 551st Engineer Company in Panama. He was retired from construction, which included work in Canada. He died March 3, 2017, in Edmonton, Canada.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Jo Bruce; three sons, Jimmy Dale Bruce Jr., Michael Taylor Bruce and Jonathan Clark Bruce; an adopted daughter, Susan Tokariuk; and two grandchildren.

Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman was in charge of arrangements.

 

James Dennis

Dobbs

March 18, 2017

Services for James Dennis Dobbs, 93, of Ackerman will be at 2 p.m. March 22, 2017, at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman with the Revs. Roy Hawkins and Danny Irvin, and Randy Loper officiating. Visitation is today from noon until service time. Burial will be in Enon Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Choctaw County. Mr. Dobbs, a retired lawyer, was a member and deacon of Ackerman Baptist Church. He died March 18, 2017, at Choctaw Regional Medical Center in Ackerman.

Memorials may be made to Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children.

Alena McBride Patterson, 59, of Eupora died Feb 25, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

She was born Aug. 25, 1957, to the late Rendell and Sue Mae McBride. Mrs. Patterson was a member of Jordan Chapel Church of God in Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Sammie Lee Patterson; four sons, Gregory Patterson, Darren Patterson of Eupora, Tony Patterson of Tupelo and Kevin Beckom; two daughters, Karen Patterson of Vardaman and Samantha Cullum of Eupora; three brothers, Robert Lee McBride, Billy Joe McBride of Eupora and Danny McBride of Sturgis; four sisters, Minister Sue Robinson, Ella Patterson, Sandra McKinley of Eupora and Rosie McBride of Kilmichael; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Rooks Jr.

March 19, 2017

Services for George H. Rooks Jr., 74, of Ackerman are 11 a.m. March 22, 2017, at Ackerman Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Simpson officiating. Visitation continues today from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial is in McCurtains Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in northern Choctaw County.

A retired coach and insurance agent, he was born Jan. 4, 1943. Mr. Rooks was serving as an alderman for the town of Ackerman and was a member of Ackerman Baptist Church. He died March 19, 2017, at his residence.

Survivors include a daughter, Mistie Thomas of Ackerman; one grandson; and his companion, Sherry Tubbs.

Memorials may be made to McCurtains Creek Cemetery Fund.

Ms. Ossie B. Davis

Funeral services for Ossie B. Davis, 97, were held at 2 p.m., March 11 at New Zion M.B. Church in Louisville. Rev. W.L. Hightower officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Ms. Davis was a homemaker and a member of New Zion M.B. Church of Louisville.

Survivors include 4 daughters, Annie Pearl Williams, Sarah Alicea, Annie Jean Washington, and Deloris Hathorn; 1 brother, Robert Miller; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ms. Annie Pearl Young McDonald

Funeral services for Annie Pearl Young McDonald, 71, were held at 11 a.m., March 11 at Mt. Sinai M.B. Church in Louisville. Rev. Ivory McDaniel officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. McDonald was a homemaker and member of Bethel M.B. Church in Louisville. She died March 6 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.

Survivors include her husband, Milus McDonald; one daughter, Rolanda Humphreys; one sister, Ruthie George; 3 brothers, Harold Young, Hoy Dee Young, and Shelton Young, Sr.; one grandson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
