Obituary – Joe C. Edwards

Joe C. Edwards, 63, of Quitman, passed away on March 2, 2014 at his residence.

He was born on June 18, 1950 to Auston and Wellie (Taylor) Edwards in Louisville, MS.

Joe is survived by his wife, Marylee O’Neal Edwards; son, Auston Ramsay (Rachel) Edwards of Madison, MS; daughter, Jill O’Neal (Ben) Gantt of Louisville, KY; sisters, Louise Hamilton of Ridgeland, MS, Jimmie Sue Hatcher, Ann Covington, and Joyce Peters, all of Louisville, MS; grandchildren, Carson Bateman Edwards, Caleb O’Neal Edwards, and Abiegail Grace Gantt and numerous other family members.

He was preceded in death by parents, Auston Jackson and Wellie Bernice Edwards.

Joe was a member of First Baptist Church, Quitman, MS and an active member of the Adult II Sunday School Class. He was a MS State University Football Letterman (1969-1970), Honorable Mention All-SEC, Academic All SEC and an avid supporter of MSU Athletic Program. He was a former Head Football Coach at Pearl High School, Pearl, MS for 2 years and Aloysius High School in Vicksburg, MS for 16 years, Head Coach of Track and Cross Country at Pearl High School for 6 years. He was Administrator and Director of Transportation for Quitman School District. Joe was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Visitation was held Thursday, March 06, 2014 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm and Friday, March 7, 2014 from 10:30 am- 11:00 am at First Baptist Church, Quitman, Mississippi. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 7, 2014, 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Gene Neal and Pat Evans officiating.

Burial took place in the Louisville Memorial Park, Louisville, MS on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.

Pallbearers were Chuck McClure, Steve Whaley, Fred Blackledge, Gary Gore, Matt Boone, Jeffrey Smith and Lamarcus Anderson.
