The Patriots and Lady Patriots of Winston Academy had a big week last week, playing four games each, but will not return to the court until Monday when they travel to Meridian to take on Lamar School.
The WA boys lost to Class AAA Pillow Academy on Tuesday, but bounced back to beat Central Academy of Macon on Thursday, before dropping a hard-fought contest to Starkville Academy on Friday. No results on the girls games were reported.
WA head coach Cory Burns was especially pleased with the way his Patriots played in their 34-29 loss to Starkville.
“It was a two-point game with 15 seconds left until we had a turnover,” Burns said. “We had a chance to beat them. That was probably the best game we have played to this point.”
Stanton McMinn led the Pats in the game with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Winston dropped a 54-22 decision to homestanding Pillow on Tuesday night. Thomas Snyder and Carter Lane Jones led WA with five points each.
The Patriots bounced back to take a convincing 75-48 road win over Central behind the 26 points of Payson Roberts. Brock Baker scored 16 points and had 12 boards for the winners, while Miles Johnson scored 10 points and ripped down 15 rebounds.
After visiting Lamar on Monday, the Patriots and Lady Patriots will play host to Newton County Academy on Tuesday and then hit the road to face Canton Academy on Dec. 5.
