In coordination with local and state disaster relief authorities, NRG Energy’s Power2Serve vehicle has been deployed to assist in relief efforts for the first time in Louisville, MS.
The Power2Serve program consists of a volunteer emergency recovery effort paired with the deployment of a 42-foot disaster relief vehicle and 26-foot trailer combination. The vehicle is designed to provide mobile device charging stations, an air-conditioned or heated pavilion, access to news and Wi-Fi internet connectivity to those in need.

The Power2Serve Response
Learning from the needs of communities recovering in the wake of recent natural disasters in the Gulf and the Northeast, NRG developed Power2Serve, a relief vehicle that responds to the needs of areas at no charge to the public.
In addition to the Power2Serve vehicle, NRG has trained and deployed teams of volunteers to support relief efforts in Louisville.

  • Deployment Team:  Mobilizes the Power2Serve Response Vehicle
  • ServeCrew:  NRG Ambassadors that work  directly with the public under the pavilion
  • Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT Teams):  Provide “hands on” disaster response assistance and support emergency first responders

The vehicle and trailer has been dispatched along with smaller, complementary vehicles providing additional services as needed. The large unit is completely self-sufficient, powered by a 10 kilowatt solar array, a 20 kilowatt diesel generator and a 10 kilowatt auxiliary diesel generator.
Additional features include:

  • An enclosed 50 x 20 foot air-conditioned or heated pavilion
  • Numerous flat panel TVs to show news or weather broadcasts
  • 100 charging stations for cell phones, cameras, small tools and power equipment
  • Wi-Fi and satellite service, and tablet computers to access email and the internet
