Pushmataha sends Scouts to Philmont for camp

From press reports

CAMP SEMINOLE–Local Boy Scouts and their adult advisors, all members of the Pushmataha Area Council, departed Camp Seminole early Sunday morning for Philmont Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico for twelve days of hiking and low-impact camping in the Sangre de Cristo range of the Rocky Mountains.

The Scouts’ families threw them a send off dinner on the grounds of the camp the night before.

In all, thirty-five Scouts and adult advisors from Starkville’s Troops 14 and 27, West Point’s Troop 15, Columbus’s Troops 3 and 1, Ackerman’s Troop 41 and Louisville’s Troop 5 will traverse one of 55 camp trails along the 214 square mile ranch, hiking approximately 60 to 80 miles during their adventure in altitudes of 6,500 to 12,441 feet.

Divided into three crews, each crew selected its route before departure and spent the last eight months training by taking similar hikes and camping trips in Alabama.
