Rambling with Arlene Barrett

Praise the Lord everyone.  What a beautiful day to serve the Lord.  The sun is shining.  The birds outside the window are jumping around and eating, and they look so happy and free.  Joe keeps them plenty of food out there.  God keeps us plenty of food too.  It’s just as plentiful and free and available to us, as Joe’s bird seeds are God’s little birds.  I’m not talking about natural food either.  I’m talking about spiritual food, the word of God.  Jesus died on the cross to make it available to us all.  It is God’s word that makes us free and helps us to be lifted up to higher heights, just like the little birds lift up  their wings and soar freely through the air.  Isn’t it just amazing how everything just fits together when God is on the scene.

God granted me, my brother Wiley, and my sister Joann a wonderful day together yesterday.  Wiley called me Thursday night and said “let’s take Saturday and go visit kinsfolk.”  So we left at seven o’clock Saturday and went to Florence, MS first.  We visited our cousin Janie and her brother Jimmy.  They are cousins on my daddy’s side.  Then we went to Pearl and visited a house full of cousins on mama’s side.  The most amazing thing happened there.  For years, I prayed for them to start going to church and live for God.  Yesterday, we had a wonderful lunch and then we gathered around the table, and we began to talk about God.  They are really involved in church now.  They teach and work with young people.  Even their grown and married children are in church.  They visit people’s home and help clean their houses.  It’s one of the ministries the young women in the church do to help the disabled and elderly.  Is that not awesome!  It’s not always people that go to their church.  They get together and have home Bible studies.  When we left there, my heart was so joyful and my spirit was soaring.

I sing a song that says “get the dust off your Bible or doom your poor soul.”  It’s a true statement.  The first thing we need to do if we want God to come into our life is to first realize and admit that we need God.  Then we need to get on our knees and pray and ask God to take control of our life and open our understanding to the word of God.  Then pick up your Bible, dust if off, and begin to read and study.  Read his word every day.  Then we need to be still and quiet and listen for the voice of God as he speaks to you.  There have been times when I have actually heard a voice as clear as anything.  Sometimes I feel the words as he speaks them to my heart.  Sometimes it is through the preaching or through a word someone else says to me.  I promise you that somehow God will speak to you if you will take time to listen to him.  God’s ways are not always our ways.  However, if we will just hear what the word says and then obey, God will bless you.

There is nothing like living for God.  I wouldn’t want to live one day without God.  I couldn’t go back to laying down to rest at night knowing that if I died that heaven would be lost to me forever.  I intend to make heaven my home.  I intend to worship God around his throne and see all the beauties of heaven the Bible promises us.  If you want to make heaven your home, turn your thoughts to God.  Find you a good church.  Come give the River of Life Church family a chance to love you and help you.  Thanks for the calls and letters.  They bless me.  Call me at 662-724-4691 or write me at 425 West Alice Street, Noxapater, MS 39346 if I can help you or pray for you.  Prove God and see that he’ll come through for you.  I love you.  God bless you all.
