Refuge improves water management

From press report

A new modern water control gate was installed this month on the main structure at Loakfoma Lake.

The new gate will allow staff to better manage water levels and provide quality habitat for waterfowl, fish and other wildlife.

The currently low water within the lake has provided some great opportunities for viewing wading birds and bald eagles now visiting the refuge.

With the new gate installed, water levels will be back on the rise and the lake will soon return to its normal water level, so bird watchers and other watchers of wildlife are encouraged to visit the refuge over the holidays.

Otters have also been seen enjoying the exposed fresh water muscles and other mud-dwelling food made available for this short time.
