Winston Strong gives keys to 4 homeowners
From staff and press reports
Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief organization, will dedicate the a completed home as part of the Winston County, Mississippi Rebuild Project on Wednesday, July 29 at 9:30 a.m.
In April of 2014, two large tornadoes tore through Winston County, Mississippi. Samaritan’s Purse deployed to help homeowners with immediate cleanup and repairs. Now, Samaritan’s Purse continues to help homeowners recover through a rebuild program.
This new house will become home to Mary Rogers,83. Mary Rogers said she saw the tornado coming but had nowhere to go. She was sitting in her living room when the tornado ripped the roof off above her head but left the ceiling intact. When Mary stood up and walked to another part of her house, the ceiling behind her collapsed.
Rogers desperately needed a new house, and on Wednesday, July 29 she will be given one.
Volunteers have worked for the past two and a half months to build Rogers’ new house. Rogers in not able to help with the manual labor, but she visits the volunteers on site every day, keeps a journal of where each volunteer is from and even helps paint when she is able.
On Wednesday, after more than two months of construction, Rogers will receive the keys to her brand new house.
