Five persons were behind bars after the Winston County Sheriff’s Department along with state and local authorities made drug arrests Thursday, March 29. Members of the Winston County Sheriff’s Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol, the Mississippi Highway Patrol Criminal Investigation Division, the Mississippi Department of Corrections, and the Louisville Police Department participated in an investigation of drug trafficking at a residence on Hwy 14 East. After obtaining and serving a search warrant, 5 persons were arrested. Marijuana, cocaine, prescription pills, cash and guns were seized at the residence. The investigation is on-going and more arrests are anticipated. “This case was initiated due to reports of suspected drug activity by concerned citizens. The cooperation of concerned, law abiding citizens who are willing to come forward is essential in the war on drugs,” stated Neal Higgason, Chief of Patrol for the Winston County Sheriff’s Department. Winston County Sheriff Jason Pugh expressed his appreciation to the officers of the agencies who participated in this investigation and to the citizens who made the removal of drugs from the county and arrested those responsible possible.
