Sunflowers add beauty and attract doves

Johnny Gregory and his family have a 5 acres of sunflowers to brighten the landscape but have been growing the flower not for its added beauty to the landscape but for the attracting of dove. The mourning dove is one of the most numerous, widely hunted, and economically valuable game birds in Mississippi. For decades, landowners and wildlife managers have planted fields in agronomic crops to attract doves for sport hunting—a practice that led to these types of fields being known more simply as “dove fields.” “Feed them and they will come, but feed them and accommodate them and they will stay.” Is the idea behind such sunflower fields in Winston County.
