Tis the Season for the Spirit of Giving…

Hanna McCain

This year the Winston County Journal publisher and staff have decided to take a different focus on Christmas.

After much thought and consideration, we are asking the children and adults of Winston County to write letters of gratefulness and to answer a very simple question.

Many of us are blessed beyond reason.  If you are anything like me, I get in a tizzy if I am the least bit late for work.

Choosing between the 20 different pairs of shoes and the endless array of clothes in my closet tends to be the reoccurring reason why I am late. When I put clothes and shoes on my 18 month old and fuss with my husband about the color of his socks, too often have I forgotten just how blessed we are to even have a choice on what to wear each day.

Mother Teresa said it best when she said “Let us not be satisfied with just giving money.  Money is not enough, money can be got, but they need your hearts to love them. So, spread your love everywhere you go.”

The Christ Child was and still is the perfect gift to mankind. God sent His one and only Son to live among us. He is the reason for the season.  He is the reason we give gifts to those we love and even sometimes to those who are less fortunate than us. The Christ Child (whether you believe in Him or not) exemplified the perfect example of love.

This year the Winston County Journal is asking you not what are you “wanting” this Christmas, but what would you give if you could this Christmas? or what are you grateful for this Christmas?
