The Winston Academy baseball team began the 2014 season in fine fashion last week by beating Starkville 10-4 and Benton Academy 7-6.
Kenny Wright picked up the win on the mound against Starkville for the Patriots, while Taylor Moody earned the save.
Peyton Allen stroked a triple and a single to lead the Pats at the plate, while Moody smacked a double and single and Reed McCool added a pair of singles. Riley Pearson, Logan Webb, D.K. Boydstun and Bradley Stapleton also singled for the winners.
Allen had another big day at the plate against Benton on Friday, picking up three singles and walking twice. Webb and Jesse Boydstun had two hits each for the winners, while Stapleton, Carter Jones and Wright also picked up a single each.
McCool got the win on the mound, while Moody earned his second save of the season. Winston was set to host Heritage on Tuesday this week, before entertaining Kirk on Thursday and Heron on Friday.
