Solid pitching and a big hitting attack is a lethal combination. That’s just what the visiting Louisville High School Wildcats used last Thursday on the way to an 8-3 region victory over Nettleton.
This week LHS was set to host Nettleton on Tuesday, before entertaining league foe South Pontotoc on Friday. After visiting Eupora for a non-league contest on Saturday, the Wildcats were set to visit South Pontotoc on April 8 and then host Winona on April 11.
Channing Wall tossed a compete game five-hitter and struck out five to turn in a solid performance on the mound for the ‘Cats against Nettelton, while Dalton Hudspeth and Dylan Nicholson banged out three hits each.
Braxton Wall had two singles for the winners, while Ross Barnett had a double and two RBIs and Brody Burchfield, Darius Miller, A.J. Triplett, Wyatt Roberts and M.J. Harrington had a single each. Nicholson knocked in a pair of runs, while Hudspeth, Miller and Braxton Wall had an RBI each.
Earlier in the week the Wildcats used a 12-hit attack to take a 10-1 win over visiting Ethel. Braxton Wall had a big day for the ‘Cats picking up the save by recording seven strikeouts in three innings of work and also ripping a double and two singles and driving in two runs.
Darius Miller had a two-run homer for the winners, while Hudspeth had a single and a double and Harrington had a pair of singles. Roberts doubled for LHS, with Barnett, Triplett and Burchfield each collecting a single. Burchfield also drove in three runs for the winners.
Nicholson allowed just one hit in four innings of work to pick up the win on the mound.
