The Winston Academy Patriots and Lady Patriots had a lot of success at last weekend’s district track meet at Canton Academy, qualifying a large number of athletes for the MAIS North State AA Meet that was set for Washington School in Greenville on Wednesday.
The top four in each event relay will qualify for the AA State Meet that will be held at Jackson Academy and Jackson Prep next weekend.
Four WA girls took individual first place honors. Marla Hudson was first in the long jump, while Joleigh Wilkes was first in the shot put, Hayden Hudspeth was first in the 200 meter dash, fourth in the 100 meters and second in the long jump, and Courtney Morgan was first in the discus and second in the shot put.
Other individual competitors for the Lady Patriots who qualified for North State and their events are: Marianne Ward, third in triple jump; Darby Nowell, fourth in high jump, and Madelyn Bright, third in one mile and 800 meters.
The relay team of Madeleine Kirkpatrick, Nowell, Ward and Hudspeth took second in the 4×200 and 4×100 events, while Katie McCool, Hudspeth, Nowell and Kirkpatrick teamed up to take second in the 4×400 relay.
The WA boys also fared well.
Cody Miller and Isaac Keene finished first and second in the pole vault, while Ethan Jordan was first in the discus. Logan Webb took third in the long jump, while Chapin Walters was third in the high jump and Jesse Boydstun was fourth in the triple jump.
Richard Woodruff and Cole Ellinburg finished second and third in the mile run, while Keene and Austin Chambliss were second and third in the two-mile run. Andrew Woodruff was second in the 800 meters, while Miles Johnson was fourth in the 200 meter dash. The 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams all qualified for North State as well.
