From press reports
The Winston County Farmers Market in Louisville was recently certified by the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce as part of the Mississippi Certified Farmers Market Program.
The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce launched the certification program as a way to recognize the growing number of farmers markets across the state. This program is a marketing initiative designed to identify and promote markets where producers of Mississippi grown fruits, vegetables, and plant materials gather to sell their goods direct to consumers. Markets participating in the voluntary program receive promotional and technical assistance.
Mississippi enjoys many operational farmers markets across the five regions. As the interest in and the desire for fresh, delicious, and locally grown produce becomes more prevalent, the number of community-based farmers markets are continuing to increase. The Mississippi Certified Farmers Market Program validates the integrity and quality of fruits, vegetables, and other agriculturally enhanced products because they are sold by those who grow and produce them. By shopping at one of the state’s certified markets, consumers are buying good nourishing food and helping to build a strong local economy.
The recently certified Winston County Farmers Market in Louisville is located at the Louisville Coliseum, and is open Thursdays 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. June through September.
