The March meeting of the Winston County Garden Club was held March 17, 2014 at Lake Tiak O’Kahta. Hostesses were Joyce Johnson and Brenda Hunt. The tables were beautifully decorated with a green St. Patrick’s Day theme. The meeting was called to order by Pres. Shari Flake, the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Rose Mary Moore and the invocation was given by Johnna Williamson. After the meal a delicious pistachio cake with cream cheese frosting was served.

Joyce Johnson introduced Roger Caperton, a local landscape architect, who described the principles of landscape design. After giving useful examples of each principle he answered questions about pruning, fertilizer, spring planting and container pants. Joyce Johnson, program leader, presented Roger with a bird feeder. Painted hummingbird feeders, the door prizes, were won by Sheila Hickman and Joyce Vanetten. Carolyn Mills gave the garden tip, “resolve to mulch, mulch, mulch.” Mulching retains moisture and cuts down on weeds.
