The December meeting of the Winston Garden Club was held on December 11 at Lake Tiak O’Khata. There were 12 members and 4 guests present. Brenda Hunt served as the hostess for the evening. She provided Christmas decorations for each table, dessert, and door prizes.
The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Johnna Williamson gave the invocation and read the biblical Christmas story. Mary Snow, using her New Orleans roots accent, entertained with the Cajun Night Before Christmas. Gayle Wekenman, with her beautiful voice, and talented pianist, Brenda Hunt, blessed the club with “O Holy Night” and “Mary Did You Know”. They, then, led the group in singing of favorite Christmas songs.
Following a meal and dessert, the members and guests exchanged Christmas ornaments while playing Yankee Swap. A brief business meeting, called to order by President Charlotte Files, concluded the evening.
• Motion by Johnna Williamson and second by Betty Sullivan to submit a letter to Walmart to provide a Christmas tree for the 2012 Habitat House passed
• Tuesday, December 18, the club will provide a Christmas party for local nursing home residents. The party will include gifts, brought by the club members to tonight’s meeting, and refreshments. Also, Winston Garden Club member, Brenda Hunt, and her sister, Mary Tabor will entertain at the party with their exceptional musical talents as well as lead party attendees in group singing
The January meeting will be held at Lake Tiak O’Khata on January 8, 2013. The speaker will be Elizabeth Johnson, owner of Uptown Lily. The topic will be “Basic Floral Design”.
