Your Winston County Library card, beginning this month, is your passport to 53 Mississippi libraries through the recently re-named and expanded Mississippi Library Partnership. On February 25, 2011, the Mid-Mississippi Regional Library System (MMRLS) of which the Winston County Library is a member, joined the Mississippi Library Partnership, formerly known as the Golden Triangle Regional Library Consortium. With the name change, comes the Partnership’s addition of the 13 public libraries of the First Regional Library System (Desoto, Tunica, Tate, Lafayette and Panola Counties).
The libraries of the Mississippi Library Partnership share library materials, technological resources, and participate in technology related training, while retaining their individuality and autonomy.
“This multi-type library partnership is a very practical, cost-effective way of providing our customers with access to more library materials, and to minimize our future library technology costs and operating expenses. Plus MMRLS has access to the Partnership’s computer servers and access to 24/7 technical support staff. As our library system has continued to grow, our computer servers became too small and outdated, thus needed to be replaced. By having our library system’s information stored and maintained on the servers of the Mississippi Library Partnership, we can concentrate on replacing and maintaining local computers for the public and staff to use,” said System Director, Richard Greene.
Your Winston County Library card may be used at any of the thirteen MMRLS libraries located in Attala, Holmes, Leake, Montgomery and Winston Counties. Now, this same library card can be used at the 40 libraries of Mississippi State University, East Mississippi Community College, Mississippi University for Women, First Regional Library System, Starkville-Oktibbeha County Libraries, Tombigbee Regional Libraries, and Columbus-Lowndes County Public Libraries.
Winston County citizens have local remote access, via the MMRLS’s On-line Catalog, to the book collections of 53 libraries throughout the State of Mississippi. This on-line catalog can be accessed at www.mmrls.lib.ms.us.from your local library, home computer or Smartphone/phone with your library card and a pin number. Pin numbers can be obtained at your local library.
“Local library users will start to see a difference to the MMRLS online card catalog soon due to the addition of the 13 book collections of First Regional Library. When the merger of First Regional Library is complete, library customers will see many more titles they can request. The materials that are outside of our five-county system can be placed ‘on hold’ and will be delivered to your MMRLS branch of choice. Weekly courier service delivers book requested from member libraries within the Mississippi Library Partnership to our MMRLS libraries,” said Richard Greene.
