Poll workers handling the Republican Primary side had just under 125 voters on the Repbulican side at lunchtime Tuesday. With a highly publized fight between Sen. Thad Cochran and Challenger Chris McDaniel hopes for Winston to have a good turnout of its 13,041 registered voters may not be realized in this primary election.
Poll workers on both sides of the aisle were requesting photo ID as required by Mississippi’s new voter ID law and an observer from the Secretary of State’s office was on hand to verify a smooth election process. “In comparison to previous years, as of right now, the 2014 Primary Election Day has been very quiet in Mississippi,” says Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann. “The limited number of calls coming into our Office, coupled with the lack of activity on the Statewide Election Management System and reports from our observers, indicate we have had light turnout thus far.”
The Secretary of State’s Office also had limited calls regarding voter ID.
